This journey starts as an investigation into the reasons for his grandparents’ exile, but it goes beyond their personal case, and his research extends to the cause of the emigration of the Egyptian Jewish community after the creation of Israel. The story is built around many meetings with personalities of the civil society, “If I forget you, Alexandria” is as much a portrait of the country today as a filigree of a disappeared Egypt: a cosmopolitan country where the different communities knew how to live together in peace.
